Overseeing the electronics design process is critical in most companies.

The electronics design and development process should be managed to ensure orderly control while still promoting the creativity of the designers.

Many companies use established methods to manage the development process. Others are adopting web-based frameworks to define the electronics development process.

There are several common activities within the broader process, regardless of how information about the electronics development process is presented and communicated.

The electronics design process can be customized to fit the specific situation. The established electronics development process should enhance the overall workflow rather than hinder it.

Yet, some seemingly unnecessary activities may need to be included to ensure the final product is reproducible and sustainable in the long term.

The electronic product design process encompasses the following key stages
1. Concept for the Product

During the early stage of our electronic design services, we develop concepts that shape a product with great commercial potential. Our experts strategically choose a business model to improve the marketability of the developing electronic device.

After conducting thorough research and analysis, our team of technical experts and industry specialists at Jarltech creates a detailed specification and conceptual design for the new product.

The specification outlines all product requirements comprehensively, while the conceptual design offers a detailed description of its functional attributes and benefits.

Our business analysts develop a business plan based on the selected business model and expert evaluations. This stage may include conducting marketing or investment studies, as well as other forms of product research.

The result of this phase will be a complete documentation package that details the product concept.

2. Prove of the Concept

The second stage requires creating a preliminary project, formulating requirements/specifications, and assessing various potential applications for the product.

After selecting manufacturers, we negotiate prices with the companies responsible for producing the necessary components. Then, we proceed to finalize the arrangement by signing a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) and obtaining any additional technical data that may be required.

After selecting key components, we conduct initial cost estimations for the Bill of Materials (BOM). During these initial calculations, we factor in the expenses incurred during the production of batches with varying volumes.

Our experts verify the device implementation comprehensively. At the end of this phase of our electronics design services, we build and extensively test a device prototype. To aid in the device's development and assembly, we acquire an assessment kit specifically designed for the selected target platform.

Our engineers thoroughly analyze the selected hardware and software solutions to identify any potential vulnerabilities related to technical feasibility, platform performance, and other critical characteristics.

At the end of this phase, we determine if we have selected the appropriate platform and engineering solutions. We may also develop a desktop prototype of the device with limited functionality, depending on the project.

3. Development of Electronic Products

During stage three, the aim is to create comprehensive design and project documentation for the recently developed device.

In this phase, we create a list of required components and proceed with the design of the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). We also generate a Bill of Materials that lists all the components and obtain accurate pricing from suppliers.

Our engineers simultaneously work on developing the HMI (human-machine interface) and defining control and information display units, as well as designing the interface, conceptualizing controls, and constructing the function tree.

While the schematic is being developed, we simultaneously design the device case by creating a sturdy model and executing the mechanical design, based on a pre-established sketch and Human-Machine Interface (HMI). Then we proceed with the PCB layout in the specified form-factor.

After creating the software architecture in the previous stage, we proceeded to implement it, followed by customizing and refining the software. Our specialists are responsible for developing and running various tests that are crucial for verifying the software's functionality and accuracy.

They also create program tests to confirm the functionality of both hardware and software. The electronic product development stage generates comprehensive design documentation for the device, including the final steps to manufacture a pilot batch.

4. Pilot Batch

In Stage Four, our objective is to create a test batch to verify the device's functionality. This phase will identify and correct any possible errors that occurred during the design stage.

Our clients use pilot batch samples to enhance their products for potential buyers or investors, and to conduct certification tests on the device.

During this phase, Jarltech specialists purchase and assemble essential components, begin PCB manufacturing, and verify assembly feasibility. Once completed, we advance to obtaining device enclosures that closely reflect the final design.

After completing the PCB assembly, we perform the initial launch process, also known as 'bring-up'. Afterwards, we perform the porting of the operating system and boot loader while refining high-level software and drivers for the system.

Our team of Jarltech experts then meticulously assemble all device components and conduct a thorough round of integration testing.

After reviewing the test results and conducting necessary testing operations, we can review and refine the product's functional requirements. We will make adjustments to the design documentation package as needed.

Any software modifications will be addressed in subsequent stages, as they typically do not require hardware-level changes.

Some clients may request the repetition of one or several development iterations in electronics. Such iterations may lead to changes in construction, schematics, PCBs, and more. This occurrence is notably more frequent in cases where stages 1 (Product Concept) or 2 (Proof-of-Concept) were skipped.

Upon completion of this stage, a fully functional pilot batch will be prepared for integration testing. Once testing concludes, any necessary amendments to the design documentation may be made.

5. Certification tests

Based on our experience, skipping preliminary certification tests significantly increases the risk of potential future material losses.

In this stage, we ascertain the classification of the device and evaluate the necessity of carrying out initial certification trials. We also create a testing timetable.

Upon receipt of the test outcomes, our experts record the measurements and revise the design documentation as necessary.

At the end of the fifth stage in our electronic product design process, the relevant organization determines whether preliminary certification testing of the device is necessary and assesses the test results.

6. Preparation for production and launch of pilot batch

The pilot batch launch aims to ready the product for full-scale manufacturing and verify the actual device production process. This stage helps to detect defects that small-scale batches may not reveal, enabling us to fine-tune the PCB, case design, or schematics as needed.

Afterward, our team of experts at Jarltech performs a final refinement of the Bill of Materials, compiles the documentation package, and works alongside our engineering technologists to develop tailored assembly charts for each product.

At the same time, we develop tools for conducting POST testing and post-production tests, if necessary, to improve test coverage.

At the end of stage six, we have produced a test batch and prepared developer documentation for the upcoming full-scale manufacturing launch of the device.

7. Full-scale production

The goal of this final stage is to begin large-scale industrial production of the product, preparing it for sale to end consumers.
